    Hello Sir, I am 14 weeks Post-Op. I will say PT was the best I have experienced. I do my exercises everyday. I am back to doing my housework. I do experience some stiffness but, I do work through it. I do take breaks as needed. Then I continue my activities. I am not in pain but, experience some ache at times. I apply ice & then it becomes much better. Eating properly does help. Positive, Mental Attitude helps a great deal. Thank you for sharing this video. 😊😊

    Wish doc gave me stronger drugs. To endure this. Vicodin didn't work at all, but since stronger drugs were over perscribed no one can get what works. This is why we cant have nice things. Im stuck with Tylenol and ice 5 days in but pain is very limiting. Everyone says it'll improve but enduring this pain with otc drugs bs.

    The worse pain I have in my knee after surgery is the same pain I had before surgery. It is a sharp pain when I bend my knee which has always limited the amount I can bend my knee during therapy. The pain is just to the left of my kneecap on my right knee. I have discussed this with my surgeon and he says the only thing he can do is open the wound up again and try to reduce the scar tissue which is causing swelling in my knee. I am almost 8 months post surgery and although the pain has has decreased slightly with all the therapy I’ve been doing, I don’t think I’m making progress any more. So, in other words, the knee replacement surgery hasn’t fixed the main source of my pain. Is this something you are familiar with? Do you think I should try to get a second opinion from another orthopedist?

      The decision to have a knee replacement is definitely a big one, but trust the advice of your surgeon and healthcare providers. Although some people do have issues after surgery such as continued pain, the majority of people have positive outcomes from surgery with improved pain, improved mobility and activity tolerance.

    You are God sent to me! Thank you for thoroughly explaining this to me. I’m post op 18 months from my left TKA and I still have pain daily. Walking, standing, sleeping, sitting and doing regular daily activities seems to make my knee hurt more at times. I feel like there is a lot of extra scar tissue that I can’t seem to break up. Surgery was 12-6-22, then MUA 12-14-23 and I feel that my pain should be gone. Therapy for 4 months. 🤦🏽‍♀️Some days my pain is really low about 3-5 and that’s awesome! It’s when it goes back to 10 or more that I don’t understand. However, I continue to do my exercises at home. I use ice, infrared lights, cupping, and diclofenac gel to aid in my pain. I’m thankful for your videos! I’ll continue to watch them to help figure out why I’m going through what I’m going through. THANK YOU!!!!!🙏🏽

      There are mixed opinions about resurfacing the patella or not with knee replacement surgery. The initial imaging before your first surgery may not have shown significant arthritic changes, leading to the surgeon not thinking resurfacing of the kneecap was unnecessary at the time. I hope you see improvements and benefits after this second surgery.

    You say your goal is to get patients off a walker in just 2 weeks at most? Why do I read and hear from other sources (actual Orthopedic Doctors) that say for a Hip or Total Knee Replacement Surgery you can expect to take at least 4 weeks of using a walker. They want you to be safe and be practicing better gait with a walker than with a Cane or Crutches. In a TKR Surgery your Quadriceps is cut in order to safely get to the knee components to perform the surgery. When the Quadriceps is cut it only has about 60% of its previous strength until it fully heals.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists 4 дня назад

      There is definitely some variability in the duration as there are many factors that play a role in how long a walker is needed, but this is just a generalization that for most patients by 2 weeks we’re looking at making that transition. However, I do also state in the video that some people will take longer and that’s perfectly ok. I agree safety and good gait pattern are very important.

Focus on building strength. And the last thing, just keep walking, practice makes perfect, or at least better.

      This will fluctuate depending on how far out you are from surgery. Early on I would try doing the exercises 2-3 times per day and doing 1-2 sets of each exercises, but more importantly, focus on the specific advice of your physical therapist as they can identify the most specific impairments for you to work on. Thanks!

    Why is my knee still so tight?

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists 6 дней назад

      This is usually due to scar tissue formation, but also may be due to swelling and the soft tissue around the knee (ligaments / tendons) still adapting to the new knee. One of the best things for knee stiffness is to just keep moving... both your knee and your body. Gentle activity as easy as walking can help your body and tissues adapt and continue to heal and feel better with time. Best wishes!

    I had my knee replaced 8 weeks ago. I have achieved 0 degree and 118 degrees range of motion. In the last week my hip back and front of my top thigh are so painful I have not been able to move much. My pt has never done the exercises I have been watching in your videos. I’m so discouraged because my recovery has been amazing. I felt no pain (just the tight band feeling) and was cleared to drive at 4 weeks. Is my hip and thigh pain due to improper gait? I know I’m walking wrong since I have had bone on bone arthritis in both knees for 5 years . I did this surgery so I can walk but everything else hurts so much I’m chair bound again 😔

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists 6 дней назад

      I'm sorry to hear about the hip and thigh pain you're dealing with after your knee replacement surgery. The pain in your hip and thigh could indeed be related to your gait. After surgery, getting used to a new way of walking can sometimes cause discomfort in other areas, especially if your gait isn't quite right. It might be worth chatting with your physical therapist about this to see if there are any adjustments or exercises that could help. If you've been watching specific exercise videos and your PT hasn't covered them, don't hesitate to bring them up during your sessions. Recovery can have its ups and downs, but addressing these issues can really make a difference. Best wishes!

    I had my TKR Jan 2023. It is now June 2024 and not only do I have knee pain worse than before I had my knee replaced, but now my hip and lower back hurt constantly. The surgeon never once explained that I might have hip and lower back pain as a side effect of the TKR. He made it seem like I’d be practically skipping once I had this done. I’m now seeking a second opinion. My advice, don’t mess with your bodies original parts unless it is absolutely necessary. I would never, ever do this again, but if you must, get 2nd and 3rd opinions before allowing the Dr to ruin your life. I can no longer stand for long periods of time, I wear a knee brace constantly, and on days where the pain is almost unbearable I use a cane. Worst decision I ever made

      Although possible, it is not likely you are causing further damage to anything by continuing to work on your bending with different exercises. You most likely would be ok trying these exercises, but my disclaimer is it's a good idea to consult with your personal physician to have a in-person assessment of the knee just to rule out any concerns.

    I have put TKR off for 25 years but now I get hematoma in the knee. Unfortunately I tore my right patellar tendon, had surgery two months ago and doing PT for that. But the left knee is arthritic and weak. I am concerned about TKR with a weak knee and atrophied muscles. If I put pressure on the patella, I swell up with blood in the joint.

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists 10 дней назад

      This obviously can add challenges to the recovery process following a knee replacement surgery. However, I will say that many people who get a knee replacement have severe arthritis or other impairments in both legs. If you do plan to have surgery, continue to perform exercises for strength and range of motion leading up to surgery. The more strength and motion you have going into surgery the more efficient your recovery will be.

I was doing very well then I started doing some squats, maybe to deep? and now I have a lot of tightness around the knee. I spoke to the physician about getting an x-ray and she said there was no need to and I spoke to the physiotherapist and she said that it’s just because of the increased activity. The only way I can explain it is I have a great bend at 120 and my extension is zero but as I walk with my surgical leg when my toe comes off the ground that bend right there feels like someone has a vice grip around my leg. It’s so frustrating and I just don’t know what to think about it so I’ve been watching your videos. I’m so glad that put out a new one on walking. I will try this tomorrow. I'm six months out from my left leg TKR wish id known that the pain meds would be discontinued so soon or I wouldn't have had it. Tramadol is useless.

    Do you think I would be ok working out at the gym? Doing barbell squats, hack squats? Im 35 and always been very fit. Im due a knee replacement in August due to wear and tear over the last 13 years

      First, the best person to ask this is your personal physician / surgeon. In general, I think it is okay to do these things but you may need to modify some things such as amount of weight, how deep you're squatting. It's better to focus on lighter weight and more repetitions in general to reduce stress through the knees. It is in general ok to work through a little pain but you don't want to have the mindset of "no pain, no gain" Exacerbating your pain will make it more difficult to exercise or do other activities. Again, best to follow the advice of your personal healthcare team.
